Sport Magazine

Sport Magazine / Ben Foden

On Friday 8th April Sport Magazine released their new issue featuring the shoot I did with England rugby star Ben Foden. The turnaround was unbelievably quick as the shoot itself was only on March 25th but everyone involved loved the shoot including Ben ( which is always nice to hear! )

I had 5 mins to shoot the Land Rover shot as we were parked up on one of the greens on the golf course to enable me to get the composition I wanted, vehicle, lake in front of the house with Ben in the foreground. The PR guy for Stoke Park was really pushing us and I think in the end I only shot 15 frames

Landscapes – Canterbury SS11

I love to shoot landscapes. It’s something I have always done ever since I picked up my first camera. I was lucky enough to be brought up in area that was surrounded by beautiful countryside and rolling hills, I loved that feeling that even though the view you were seeing had been seen a thousand times before, you were looking at with your own eyes and in a totally different way and I always wanted to document that. It’s still no different today and whilst I was out in Fuertaventura I shot as many as I could.

Here is a small selection

CCC_SS11

Having originally sat down for literally nearly a week editing 1000’s of images from the Canterbury Spring Summer 11 campaign it’s always nice to go back into Capture One and look through all the images again with a fresh perspective and from a more creative viewpoint. Obviously it goes without saying that my images always have my creativity within them but as with most commercial clients, for them it’s about the product and the brand and ultimately they call the shots, so sometimes some of the images that I think visually strong are just too edgy to push onto the client. However, when personally editing to showcase my work on my own website I can push ideas / layouts and post production to satisfy…….well me!

I am currently working on montages, layouts and edits to create a gallery on my site to really convey the energy and feeling of the shoot. Obviously I can’t showcase it till I get the nod from Canterbury but it’s gonna look great…..if I do say so myself.

One of the locations we shot in was a huge sand dune network which was visually stunning, and in the this particular shot below we had the 3 guys running toward a static rugby ball and then diving for a try. The by product of them diving into the sand was the creation of sand sculptures. I was shooting at 6 frames a second as they were running to capture the moment perfectly and because I was shooting at such a high shutter speed i was able to freeze the moment perfectly.

One of the attempts made by the guys that clearly wasn’t used by Canterbury!

CCC_SS11 Completed!

Thanks to my retouch team we managed to deliver the completed job to my client on time. So now it’s over to their in house design team to deal with the layouts etc in preparation for the launch date. So now I’m working on an alternate more personal edit to present on my website as well as producing a short 3 min behind the scenes film of the shoot out in Fuertaventura. It will posted on this blog and my website hopefully by the end of next week.

Canterbury SS11 Close to completion

Well after a couple of intensive months of work first editing and then waiting for the final edit to be approved by the client we’re almost complete. The final batch is in post at the moment and will be submitted this week to the client. Amazing! Out of all the 1000’s of frames taken the whole campaign is edited down to 55!

I’m really looking forward to retouching my edit, creating sequences and layouts which will capture the essence of the shoot and get it on my website once the main campaign has been released.

There are so many amazing shots from the week, below is one from the first day of shooting that obviously couldn’t be used for the campaign………Can’t wait to get authorisation to show more images!!!

Canterbury Of New Zealand SS11

Between Nov 7th – 14th November I was away in Fuertaventura shooting the Canterbury Spring Summer 2011 Collection. Absolutely amazing shoot, beautiful landscapes from Volcanic terrain, sand dunes and beautiful beaches made the perfect backdrop to produce some beautiful shots for my second Ad job with the famous Rugby brand. Once again Mill Co’s Liz Birkbeck and Claire Martin were all systems go working their production magic to help deliver the full team to Fuertaventura and look after the motley crew for the week! The entire crew worked their socks off and it was a real pleasure to have everyone so focused, helping produce what I know will be a really successful campaign.

Since we returned I’ve been totally immersed with the edit and in fact today ( 2/12/10 ) myself and the Art Director , Georgina Hodson , finally finished the edit! I’m really excited about it and can’t wait to get started on the post production and put the finishing touches to the campaign. Obviously it won’t be till late Feb next year that it will be released but I will be posting some behind the scenes shots and film footage on here.
